These American Lives: Mr. Geller

For this year’s annual The Lives They Lived issue, the Times Magazine asked the producers of This American Life to guest edit a section of the issue about regular people. The resulting stories are incredibly moving, especially the story about Richard Geller, a math teacher at Stuyvesant High School. I can’t recommend enough that you read it. It is very sad but incredibly beautiful and inspiring. Everything else in the section was great too, like this essay about African Americans breaking various color barriers and this story about three men with Down syndrome who died in the tornadoes in Missouri
